Fred

Fred is an open-source agentic coding CLI built around a small set of well-understood primitives — view, edit, grep, glob, bash, todo — with permission gating per call. It runs on DeepSeek, which makes it cheap enough to leave running while you work. It's an experiment in asking how affordable a coding agent can be while still feeling good to use.

The CLI itself (fred) is open source. You can run it directly against DeepSeek with your own key and skip Fred entirely. This web service exists to add billing, usage analytics, and a hosted streaming proxy for people who'd rather pay per-token through a single account.
